It was a night for legends, a night where Borussia Dortmund stormed Ghana, making history as well as thrilling fans with football.
Not only was it a historic night but one where the continent held their own as African Legends held Dortmund Legends to a 2-2 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 11, 2022 in a friendly game.
Prior to the commencement of the game, the legends of both sides were introduced with Jan Koller getting the loudest cheer for the Dortmund Legends for apparent reasons.
Fans however cheered loudest when the likes of Stephen Appiah, Samuel Osei Kuffuor and Awudu Issaka were called on.
For Awudu Issaka, he gave fans a treat to what they missed where he ‘head-juggle’ his way to the middle of the pitch. A piece of trickery it was to thrill fans and legends alike.
The African Legends had the perfect start, controlling the affairs of the game with intricate passes and a bit of trickery here and there from ex-Black Stars winger, Laryea Kingston.
Stephen Appiah and Augustine Arhinful rolled back the years to give the African Legends the lead. The Tornado picked a pass from Derek Boateng and then carefully lobbed the ball to Arhinful who neatly found the back of the net, beating Roman Weidenfeller.
Momentum would shift in favour of Dortmund who caused a lot of havoc on the left flank of attack as David Odonkor terrorised John Paintsil, beating him for pace and skill to entertain fans.
Dortmund then found their equaliser through the spot, one that was scored by Egyptian legend, Mohammed Zidane to end the first half with a 1-1 scoreline.
It was more of the same for Dortmund who continued to dominate and got themselves in front with Kevin Großkreutz scoring a superb curler.
With the game seemingly over for the African Legends, Kwame Ayew’s pass found Prince Tagoe who scored the equaliser with literally the last kick of the game.
